Hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid is a ubiquitos natural polysaccharide that is produced by many cell types in the cell membrane. It's production is decreased with aging. It resides in the ground substance and acts as a space filling stabilizing molecule.
It's viscoelastic properties, lack of hypersensitivity and migration and insolubility make it an appropriate agent for soft tissue augmentation. Hyaluronic acid's enormous ability to bond water assists in in HYDRATION and maintains SKIN TURGOR (providing a youthful appearance).
For fine lines a thinner gel is used for application and lasts 3-4 months wheareas deeper frown lines, wrinkles, scars as well as LIP AUGMENTATION requires the thicker gel which lasts up to 6-9 months.
For face contouring lactic acid or tranverse Hyaluronic acid which lasts uto 1-2 years is used.
